How I write a usability test plan
Realistic tasks
A good task describes a goal, not a button. For Sehati we planned remote sessions around five:
- Book a cardiologist on a given date.
- Ask the AI assistant a medical question.
- Buy Vitamin C from the pharmacy.
- Open a doctor’s profile and read reviews.
- Switch between consultation, booking and pharmacy.
What to measure
- Time on task and success rate.
- Where people hesitate or go back.
- A short survey after the test: ease, trust and design quality.
Before sessions are run, every screen was also reviewed against Nielsen’s 10 heuristics, which catches the obvious issues so real users can reveal the surprising ones.
Be honest about the gap
In Filis I ran an accessibility pass but not moderated sessions, and the case study says so. A plan you haven’t run yet is still valuable, as long as nobody mistakes it for results.
